( Lion Dr. Paul Prichard reporting)
Lion President Kogin opened the meeting on time. Fred reported on some changes in the law pertaining to Vets. They may now salute the flag with the military hand salute when in civilian clothes. Also any combat or other earned ribbons may be worn on civvies for special patriotic occasions. If you old uniform fits you may wear all or part of it.
Lion Roger Smith the stub sorting party will be Nov. 14th @ OLGH parish hall. It will start at 5:30. The Club will furnish the chicken. The rest will be potluck and BOYB.
Lion Paul Prichard invited us to the Aberdeen Elks #593 special Veterans Day dinner and concert on Nov. 6 @ 6:00. This consists of a free prime rib dinner for all veterans -- #15 for others. The Elks National Band will play incidental music during the dinner and will present a patriotic concert afterwards. The music will honor veterans of all the armed forces. If you plan to attend, please call for reservations immediately as this program fills the Lodge to capacity. 532-2211
The Lions Memorial Fund is accepting donations honoring our longtime Fellow Lion Harold Schmidtke. His memorial will be at the Hoquiam Elks Sunday November 9 - 1-3 PM.

The speaker today was Carol Smith who is the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity, Grays Harbor. She very succinctly explained how the program works. The have built 9 houses in 7 years and are building the 10th in Ocean Shores. A new program they have going is called HodgePodge. This program will sell used or donated building materials at reduced prices. It is expected to locate in the old Hoquiam Senior Center. A good program – informative and interesting.

The Pot: Bud Meservey
November 11, 2008
As our Secretary has finally returned from his recent shooting excursion, we received a list of November birthday Lions. (albeit they all confessed and were fined at the last meeting) The honorees are: Paul Prichard, Mike Lytle, Gordon Lanning, and Jerry Erickson.
Rain Derby Chairman Roger reminded us of the stub sorting party to be held Friday, November 14 at OLGH Catholic church in Hoquiam starting at 5:30 PM. The Club will supply the chicken and members are asked to bring pot-luck salads, desserts. etc. Should you want to "Splice the Mainbrace" you must bring your own grog. Roger further - with a great degree of urgency - that all who have completed guess tickets in their possession PLEASE get them to himself or Kogin as soon as possible. He continued with some bad news. It appears that we are going to be approximately 170 books (approx $1000) short of last year's sales. YIKES! ( Perhaps we could ask for a government bailout?)
Lion Jack Strom gave us another report on his new granddaughter and was fined to the max. (In an obvious attempt to lessen his fine, he gave us a sad story about dropping his camera in the water and the cost of repair. Needless to say - that ploy failed miserably.).......Lion Secretary Jerry reported on the aforementioned shooting excursion. Having only missed two targets, he still finished well down in the field. ( He's a straight shooter albeit a slow one.) Then he mentioned one of his twin granddaughters, who is in the 9th grade, is on a high school rowing team that has been doing quite well in competition. Being a twin, we fined Jerry double.
Today - being Veterans Day, I doffed my Lion President hat and put on my Veterans Service Officer cap and gave a program on the history of the Veterans Administration and Veterans benefits.
Rudy Spanich won the huge carry-over attendance pot.

Not much business again today and attendance was a tad slim. Lion Al Bruun reported that the shipping company that buys our used cell phones is going out of business, in the United States, on January 1, 2009. We either have to find a new outlet for this fund-raiser or abandon it. Knowing Lion Al he is searching for another outlet.
It was decided - after much discussion - that November Turkey bingo will be held November 18. December Turkey bingo will be on December 16 and our annual noon Tom and Jerry party will be December 30. [ NOTE: A huge attendance to all three of these functions will be greatly appreciated.]
Once again our program failed to "make muster", and once again our resident historian, Lion Jerry Schaefer, came to our rescue. Jerry's topic for today was nicknames given to many of the early Western men and women and how they earned the nickname. Even with all of the "name calling", Jerry's presentation - as always - was very interesting.
Wes Harris' name was called for the attendance pot.

Today was the Thanksgiving Turkey Bingo. The "Head Turkey" (this writer) was absent and was told that fun was had by all. (except the turkeys)
