It was recently announced that I had returned from my annual lacuna from the Club's website and newsletter. Most of you thought that this was just a rumor as you didn't note anything being published. Truth be told, I just couldn't "get'er" back into gear as timely this year.....for this I humbly apologize. This being said, we should be back on track.

( King Lion Roger reporting )
Meeting was called to order and the introductory singing and Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lion Pete VanderLinden.
Committee Reports
Salmon BBQ: As reported last week, profit was estimated at $2,500.00. As with each year, the success was attributed to the outpouring of help from Lions Members, their spouses and friends of Lions.
Concessions: Lions Pete Hegg and Larry Jones reported that while final numbers are still a week away, estimated profit stands at $2,300.00. Again, thanks were given to the support given by the membership.
Play Day Buttons: All posts were manned and entrance to the stadium was smooth and orderly.
Rain Derby: Over 2/3 of the tickets have been distributed and it appears that sales are going well. Jack Shrauger (still a Lion at heart) has volunteered to post the numbers on the Rain Derby sign on Riverside.
Lions Signage: Through the efforts of Lion Paul Dean, a sign post has been erected on Sumner Avenue on the East side of Hoquiam. Lion Jerry Schaefer has secured the Lions sign with meeting information and will install the sign after today’s meeting. Efforts to erect two more signs at the north and west entrances of Hoquiam continue.
Announcements
Thank you notes for donations given were read.
Zone Meeting on September 28th at the Ocean Palace in Aberdeen.
Program
Today’s speaker was Bill Vandenbush, author of “If Morning Never Comes”. His message of coping with life’s adversities was coupled with that of Near Death Experience. While serving in the US Army in Vietnam, he and his platoon were bombed and while seriously injured, was helping shot five more times by sniper fire. His injuries tore out his left eye and vocal cords. He spoke of his near death experience as well as how he dealt with the 10 year rehabilitation that followed. Bill’s positive outlook took him back to receive higher education and a 20 year career in working with the VA in Post Traumatic Stress and later mental health work for veterans.
His accounts can be seen on Youtube (search Bill Vandenbush) and in his book.
The Pot: George Powers – Sadly not present, but we’ll add his loss to next week’s winner.

No newsletter this day due to wildcat strike by pressmen, and a new litter of puppies born in the circulation department.
